DOG BITES AND METALLICS!

Despite popular belief I don't always wear bodycon dresses and heels for the most part I spend my day in boots.  Sometimes I'm just happy to get out of them and get in a dress and feel feminine. I wish I could dress up everyday for work and have clothing options but being a blue collar worker doesn't allow me such privileges. Tonight was my first meeting with the committee for the plus pageant I will be competing in during the month of march. Since I wasn't in the mood for heels I opted for some leggings and a t-shirt (which was originally a dress). I normally don't do a colorful lip because although I have a million and one shades of lip colors I normally keep to pinks and nudes. I was super duper happy to do this red lip tonight.

Top: Riverisland (out of stock)
Leggings: Asos
Boots: Forever21 (out of stock)
Lip:Mac Ruby Woo

I really hoped to wear the shirt as a t-shirt dress but honey these hips just won't allow that to happen at all. I think adding a leggings bought the look together without making it look to bulky. I was extremely comfortable tonight and my feet thanked me for the break.

LEOPARD IS THE NEW BLACK

I know that black is such a neutral color but to me honestly Leopard is just as well. I'm trying to decide should I add Tartan and Houndstooth to the same List as well. I mean honestly mixing patterns are a past time. I'm not afraid of mixing prints and color and your shouldn't be either. I mean if you are on those gals that would rock any of this pieces with solid black step outside the box already.

1. Leopard Harem Pants: Forever21

2. Leopard Skater Dress: ASOS ( use promo code: WELOVESTUDENTS FOR 25% OFF)

3.  INC Red Leopard Dress: Macy's (on sale for $53)

4.Gucci Bootie: Gucci

Color Ideas for leopard are limitless I've seen in recently been matched with even houndstooth so sky is the limit. I have just about everything on this list. I will be blogging  with a few of these items show keep a look out!

DARK FLORAL: HOW TO GO FROM THE RUNWAY TO EVERYDAY!

DARK FLORALS FOR THE CURVY GIRL

So when I saw some of the looks for New York Fashion Week I realized that Dark Florals were definitely a key factor this season. I'm not normally a floral person every since Kim K wore her all floral ensemble I've stayed clear of rocking it lol. So when I spotted this super cute blazer on Torrid I just couldn't help myself. I could honestly  see myself wearing this jacket  several other times because it has so much potential. Now the price was another story originally it was $64 dollars I waited until it went on sale for $49 and was able to use a promo code and received 20% off additionally.

This is how the blazer looks on the model Obviously wearing all black is the safe way to rock the jacket but I decided to amp it up just a bit and add this lovely pink skater skirt from talbot that I got on sale from $89 to $13! I love a good sale I will hold out sometimes on certain items until they go on  sale just to  feel like I got a deal. In the event I may feel as if the item will sell out I will bite the bullet and pay full price. Today My 7 month Niece was baptized and I wouldn't miss it for the world. When going to church and being curvy I try to make sure I wear nothing form fitting because you know curves in a bodycon is dangerous.

DETAILS OF MY OUTFIT:

JACKET: TORRID $49.00
SKIRT:TALBOTS $13
SHOES: GO JANE

The Star of the Day was my beautiful Niece in her all white dress with matching head band. I was so happy to be able to see her on such a big day. Even though I don't have a child of my own this little girl will get all my love and affection.

WHY DON'T BLACK WOMEN CARE ABOUT DYING FROM BREAST CANCER?

AN EPIDEMIC IN OUR OWN BACK YARD?

I have some of the most passionate and personal conversation with strangers on the street and today was no different. While wearing my pink badge at work and sitting on a bench stool she sits next to me. she says she loves my pink badge and did I know someone who passed from breast cancer. I explain to her that although I have not  I can definitely show my homage to those that have. She a black woman in her late 20's almond shaped eyes and slump shoulders explains. She states that she lost her mother almost 10 years now to breast cancer. I of course say my I'm sorry for lost and I really do mean it her pain resonated to the surface. In an instance I see the young woman as a child in sense hopeless without a mother. In a instant her sadness is replaced and anger fills her eyes  ans she says "I was so mad at her".  I pause unsure of how to approach the current situation I can deal with remorse but not anger and someone who is no longer here.

I probed and asked why was she so angry at her mother because she had breast cancer? she answers and her response is so specific and detailed. A woman who refused to go the doctor in over 45 yrs of living died to a cancer that she didn't have to. Although sickness has struck in the form of the flu,  pneumonia and several bumps and scratches over the years. She self medicated stuck it out and didn't see herself sitting in doctors office for hours on end and only to end  up with a huge bill that her insurance wouldn't fully cover any way. In all these minor infractions was it worth it? Is it that black women don't care are they just ill informed?  I would like to hope it the second choice. I don't think her mother intended on leaving her daughter before getting to hold her first grand child. She describes looking  into the crowd at the graduation and not seeing her face and the anger was so real.

I am all too familiar with parents and friends alike not going to the doctor for annual check ups. It makes me sad to know that we as black women are dying at such enormous rate is just sad. I looked into into the statistics and decided to share. What can we do as a community to stop this?

Breast Cancer Statistics for African American Women

Incidence

• An estimated 26,840 new cases of breast cancer are expected to occur among African American women in 2011

• Breast cancer is the most common cancer among African American women.

• African American women have a higher incidence rate before age 40 and are more likely to die at every age compared to non-Hispanic white women.

• Breast cancer incidence rates increased among African American women in the 1980s. However, breast cancer incidence rates have stabilized since 1992

• African American women are less likely to be diagnosed with smaller tumors (less than 2 cm) and more likely to be diagnosed with larger tumors (greater than 5cm)

• African American women have higher rates of distant-stage breast cancer compared to white women and rates of distant-stage disease have increased slightly (0.7 percent per year) since 1975, whereas rates among white women have remained stable.

• Breast cancers diagnosed in African American women are more likely to have factors associated with poor prognosis, such as higher grade, distant stage, and hormone receptor negative status.

• Premenopausal African American women appear to be at particular risk for basal-like breast cancer (i.e., triple-negative cancers), an aggressive subtype of breast cancer associated with shorter survival.

Mortality

• An estimated 6,040 deaths from breast cancer are expected to occur among African American women in 2011.

• Breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death among African American women, exceeded only by lung cancer.

• Breast cancer death rates among African American women decreased 1.6 percent annually from 1998 to 2007.

• The steady decline in overall female breast cancer mortality since the early 1990s has been attributed to improvements in both early detection and treatment. However, breast cancer death rates have declined more slowly in African American women compared to white women, which has resulted in a growing disparity.

• By 2007, African American women had a 41 percent higher death rate than white women.

• The higher mortality rate in African American women may be related to differences in access to and utilization of early detection and treatment and differences in tumor characteristics.

Survival

• Since 1975, the breast cancer 5-year survival rate has increased significantly for African American women, yet there remains a substantial gap between white and African American women.

• Currently, the 5-year relative survival rate is 77 percent for African Americans compared to 90 percent among white women.

• Fifty-one percent of all breast cancers diagnosed among African American women are at a local stage, compared to 61 percent among white women.

• Possible reasons for poorer stage-specific survival of African American women compared to white women include unequal receipt of prompt, high-quality treatment; the observation that aggressive tumor characteristics are more common in African American women; and the suggestion that factors associated with socio-economic may influence the biologic behavior of breast cancer.

Screening

• In 2008, the proportion of African American women aged 40 and older who reported getting a mammogram within the past two years was 67.7 percent (68 percent for non-Hispanic white women. However, only 52.2 percent of African American women reported having a mammogram within the past year compared to 54.2 of non-Hispanic white women.

WHY ARE SO MANY FAT PPL CATFISHING: SELF HATE?

When I watched MTV'S Catfish for the first time I was hooked not for the drama or the conclusion but the stories behind the situation. It became a Normal Routine in my house we crowd around the TV some sit on couches while others choose the floor instead. We would watch in silence at the suspense of someone's life literally unfolding before Our eyes. It has become clear that Social Outlets have made it easier to create another person, Image or Flex In my Trinidad James Voice.

In the Last episode I was able to catch I felt so bad for Framel (r) and why he explained his inital reason for lying about his real identiy. I found myself feeling sad and my Mom even cried (because she's a cry baby) at his heart felt apolology. I can remember seeing Anthony (L) speak about how in love he was with the fake Framel. In a living room full of friends one says "I bet he's fat". I can remember saying the same thing internally. I wanted him to be who he said he was or atleast some skinny pimpled face teen but I didn't want him to be fat. It seems that everyone that is on the  lying end of catfish is always fat and I'm like come on! I know we aren't the only ones lying on the internet.

Self hate is real and I know that now, I for one haven't really had any self hate or low self esteem Issues about my weight. I do however receive emails from some of my younger followers and some are very depressed even suicidal about the bullying, and self hate. I just feel so bad that people aren't happy with themselves so much that would create another life or person. I can remember being ridiculed or people saying to me "you are so confident for your size" or whenever someone would get angry at me it's usually followed with FAT-Bitch. I can remember an ex-lover whenever they would get mad would attack my weight. The names I was called would rock anyone to their core. Only in days later to be apologised to and said sorry but those words still stung. It didn't make me hate myself tho question maybe but never hate. I yearn for the moments when plus size men and women truly love themselves and if they don't make the proper steps to find that love.

SELF ESTEEM TIPS

Stop comparing yourself to others. You are not supposed to be like anyone else. You are you. You are the only one who can be you. Your perspectives, gifts and value are exclusively yours. You are a unique expression of the divine. Revel in it! If you want something to measure yourself by, compare how you were yesterday to how you are today, and be kind.

Celebrate your successes. Even the small ones. Don't wait to get perfect. Any progress at all is worthy of celebration. When you celebrate, you are telling the universe “I am loving this. Please give me more!” Yay!

Create a list of accomplishments and review it often. We tend to get overwhelmed looking at what’s left to be done and forget to give ourselves credit for how far we’ve already come.

Allow yourself to be where you are. Just feel whatever you are feeling, without judging it or judging yourself for feeling it. Let go of the story you have created around it and just be with the feeling. Embrace it. Explore it. Feel it. All any feeling wants is to be felt fully. This can only be done when you let go of your resistance to feeling it, which is kept in place by the story and the judgment around it. Without the story and the labels, feelings are inherently neutral. Feel the feeling fully, then just let it dissolve.

Real self esteem is something that comes from deep down, consciously or unconsciously. Self confidence comes from accepting your imperfections, limitations and things that cannot be changed. Know that you are precious because you are a creation by God.

GIRLS LOVE BEYONCE! MIAMI EDITION

We Let me start by saying I have loved Beyonce since I could remember. I could remember falling in love for the first time and "Dangerously In Love" was dedicated to my undying love. I told him he wasn't  Irreplaceable months later.  Oh how much songs have a way of putting in the right mood or saying exactly what you need to be said threw song. So when I heard Mrs. Carter was coming to Miami I waisted No time making purchasing my tickets. The stage set up was unique the floor section wasn't equipped with chairs for people to sit comfortably. Instead Mrs. Carter opted for standing room only on her floor. I love concerts but I hate dressing for them my first concert was a casual sundress and flats. Only to be overwhelmed with women in 6inch heels and freak em dresses. I felt so out of place that night. I don't know if it's a South Florida thing or are you really suppose to dress up? So for Bey I decided to keep comfy and stylish at the same time without having to worry about pulling my dress down over this full hips every 2 seconds. Here Goes!

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX....MORE LIKE OUTSIDE OF PLUS!

When you are plus size fashion isn't always easy. When others spot us in a fab ensemble none understand that it would've taken us weeks to piece it together. So when finding outfits that work for you we must think outside the box More like the brand. We are all guilty of going to our "SAME" store I.E. Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewart, ASOS etc.  Welp I will give you a Tip.....I Shop Maternity!
Yes I do and No I"m not expecting lol. If I can fit it I will buy it We as plus size women need to stop sticking to OUR stores and step outside the box. There are several places that have fab maternity one of which happens to TARGET and ASOS. Sometimes the Maternity items will going on sale far before straight size or plus size clothing.

This dress was onsale for $25 dollars in the maternity section and wasn't available in plus size or straight sizes. So Of course I didn't think twice and neither should you the next you pass a store that doesn't sell "your size". You maybe passsing up your next hot dress or accessory or even bag. It's never about the number on the tag but how you wear those numbers. Shop without worries you never know what you may get in return for taking a chance.

FFF WEEK/CURVES IN THE CITY

Welp it is that time of year where curvy women flock to NYC and indulge in workshops and fashion shows and get to meet other bloggers. I must admit I was some what skeptical about meeting other bloggers. I must admit most were just lovely and so welcoming and not to mention gorgeous in person. Today was Curves in the City Part 1 and It was lovely I got a chance to see gabifresh swimsuitforall bathing suits in person.  Just picture a room full of independent make up lines, clothing lines and accessory companies. I got a chance to purchase a few items and loved the great vibe. I wanted to be simple yet a little spicy but New York makes you want to just wear sneakers and a track suit. I must admit I am guilty for having a pair of slippers in bag to switch after my feet couldn't take it anymore.

I have talked about asos sizing on my YouTube channel so if you are still having trouble figuring it out tip on over to my YouTube page (successisnotaoption). I received plenty of compliments on this dress. It is shiny and just so cute BUT my skin hated it anyone who has worn anything sequin you know it kind of itches.  In order to achieve certain looks you have to have a bit of pain so I wont complain.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING UP TO ANYWAY?

ARE YOU HOLDING YOURSELF TO FALSE STANDARDS?

As a person who loves to read Vogue and Cosmo I recently have come across alot of women who desire to have  Beyonce Body or J. Lo figure.  Women and Some Men look in these magazines and desire a goal that even artist themselves aren't living up to. This Is where self love and self hate go hand in hand. You have to love yourself for who you are NOW if you eve want to love who you have the potential to be. I began surfing the web to find some of these before and after pics or airbrushed stars and the images scared the crap out of me.

SINGER/ AMERICAN IDOL JUDGE: MARIAH CAREY

MEGAN FOX

This picture of a Kardashian sister upsets me the most because so many everyday women could relate to a picture of her still bloated from birth. Instead she is photo shopped to look slim and trim and it's a lie.

So in a world of images and perception do you think celebs should stop the foolery? or do you think they need to continue with the crazy photo shop? chime in

FLY ON A DIME: TIPS FROM A SHOPPING ADDICT!

Okay everyone Knows I loveeeeeeee to shop but some wonder how I do it. Now I love a new bag just like the next girl but It doesn't come over night. I will give you tips to save money in other fields and keep a few hot dollars for a rainy day. As the economy picks up we as women must adjust our spending which means no more $800 dollars for sassy mitchell.

HAIR SAVINGS

TIP 1: Get your hair cut at a beauty school or training salon. Many who've tried it have been pleasantly surprised with the results, and happier with lower prices
( **If you are local try dorsey, lindsey hopkins or robert morgan)

TIP 2: Barter with a friend who can style hair.
(**owning a boutique I have bartered with my nail tech and hair dresser for clothing items it's no money out of your pocket and you get to look fab!)

SHOPPING TIPS

TIP 1:  Shop at consignment stores you can save big on designer items

TIP 2: SALE your clothing that you have out lived or know that you aren't going to wear again. It will give you money to play with without having to spend your own money.

TIP 3: Organize a "Can I Wear it Week" with good friends. Wear only things you haven't worn for 6 months or more. Ask your friends to decide whether each outfit is a keeper or one to retire. You'll find many things you think are unflattering or unstylish are actually fine

LUNCH TIME!

TIP 1: If you can, store some food at work, like snacks, frozen entrees and canned soup. Leave them at the office so you're not tempted to spend when you're hungry.

TIP 2: If you forget lunch, go to the supermarket instead of a restaurant or cafe (I do this all the time you'd be suprised all the goodies you can get!)

I hope these tips have helped!
